Real talk about hypnosis, because stage hypnosis isn't clinical hypnotherapy

Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is the opposite.

What we do is guide you into a deeply relaxed, focused state, similar to that slow drift just before sleep where your subconscious mind becomes accessible. In that state, the analytical layer that usually filters and resists new information quiets down. That's when real change becomes possible.

You are aware the entire time. You are in control the entire time. You simply have access to the part of your mind where your patterns actually live.

That's why people who've spent years in talk therapy sometimes experience profound shifts in just a few hypnotherapy sessions. Talking about a pattern keeps you in the analytical mind. Hypnotherapy brings you to the layer underneath, where the pattern was created, and where it can be changed.

The Experience

An Immersive Way to Go Inward

Every hypnosis session is guided through high quality, over ear headphones. It is a small detail that makes a meaningful difference, drawing your attention away from the room around you and toward the quiet space within.

With outside noise gently minimized, the work feels more private and contained. Your nervous system has room to settle, and your focus can soften inward with far less effort. Many clients notice they relax more quickly, feel more present, and reach a deeper state than they expected.

If you have ever listened to a guided meditation through headphones, this will feel familiar. Calm, close, and fully supported, from the first breath to the last.

Clinical Hypnotherapy FAQ

What is clinical hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy is a guided, therapeutic use of hypnosis. Your hypnotherapist helps you settle into a deeply relaxed, focused state, similar to the drift just before sleep, where the subconscious patterns behind stress, anxiety, grief and habits become easier to reach and change. You stay aware and in control the entire time.

How is clinical hypnotherapy different from stage hypnosis?

Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is a private, collaborative session built around your goals, and nothing happens without your consent. You remain aware throughout and can open your eyes and return to full alertness at any time.

What happens in a first hypnotherapy session?

Your first session lasts about two hours. It begins with a conversation about your goals and history, followed by guided relaxation through immersive audio on over ear headphones, release work tailored to you, and positive suggestion and imagery. Most clients leave feeling calm, lighter and more centered.

How much does hypnotherapy cost in Orlando?

At A Way Forward, the first session is two hours at $300. Follow up sessions are $150 for 60 minutes or $225 for 90 minutes. The 15 minute consultation call is free, and prepaid packages are available for returning clients.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

Many clients complete three to five sessions, although some notice a meaningful change after one. Patterns that have been present for many years may benefit from a longer series, and your hypnotherapist will talk through a plan with you after your first session.

Which hypnotherapist will I work with?

You can work with Shannon Rollins-Rodriguez or Jennifer Adams. Both are Clinical Hypnotherapists who share the same trauma-informed approach, and your free consultation is a good time to talk about which fit feels right. QHHT® and somatic breathwork are offered with Shannon.

Can I do clinical hypnotherapy online?

Yes. Online sessions use the same focused relaxation as in person sessions, over a secure video call. You will need a quiet, private room, a comfortable place to sit or lie down, and headphones if you have them. In person sessions take place at our office in Orlando, FL.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. You stay aware throughout, you cannot be made to do anything against your values, and you can return to full alertness whenever you choose. Hypnosis is better understood as a skill you practice with guidance than as something done to you.

Is hypnotherapy a replacement for therapy or medication?

No. Hypnotherapy complements care from licensed mental health and medical providers. Please keep working with your prescribing provider and never change medication without their guidance. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
