Why loss hurts in the body
Grief is not only sadness. It can show up as a tight chest, heavy limbs, broken sleep, or a mind that keeps replaying what happened. After a breakup or divorce, the loss can feel just as physical, even when you know it was the right ending.
These reactions are a natural response to losing someone or something that mattered. They are not a sign that you are grieving the wrong way or taking too long.
How grief hypnotherapy helps
In hypnosis, your body settles into deep relaxation while your mind stays aware and in control. From that calmer place, it becomes easier to let waves of emotion move through, loosen the loop of what-ifs, and reconnect with your own sense of worth.
Sessions move at your pace. There is no timeline for grief, and you leave with breathing and self-hypnosis tools to use on the harder days.
Losses hypnotherapy can support
Every loss is different. These are the experiences clients most often bring to us.

Breakups and heartbreak

Divorce and separation
Grieving a marriage and the future you planned, while rebuilding your home, routines and identity.

Loss of a loved one
Grief after the death of a parent, partner, child, friend or family member, whether recent or years ago.

Major life transitions
Loss that comes with change, such as an empty nest, a move, a career ending, or a chapter of life closing.

Shannon blends hypnotherapy, breathwork, and nervous system work so clients don't just understand their patterns, they feel the shift. Her sessions draw on parts work, IEMT, NLP, and hypnotic belief work, and as a QHHT® Level 2 Past Life Regression Practitioner, she also guides clients through past life sessions. She especially loves guiding women through her group program, Wired for Secure Love, where they rewire old attachment patterns and learn to attract love from a regulated, secure place. Shannon is the founder of A Way Forward.

What the research says about grief and heartbreak
Research on hypnosis for grief specifically is still early. Here is what the broader evidence shows, so you can decide with clear expectations.
Heartbreak is felt in the body
In a brain imaging study of people who had recently gone through an unwanted breakup, looking at a photo of their former partner activated brain regions also involved in physical pain. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2011.
Calming the stress response
A 2019 meta-analysis of 15 studies found that hypnosis reduced anxiety, with benefits that held at follow-up and were stronger when combined with other care. Anxiety and restlessness are common parts of grief. International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 2019.
Responses vary
Stanford brain imaging research found that roughly one in four adults is not readily hypnotizable, and that people who respond well show distinct patterns of brain activity. Comfort and practice also shape the experience. Stanford Medicine, 2012.

Grief and heartbreak questions
Can hypnotherapy help with grief?
Hypnotherapy can be a gentle support while you grieve. In a calm, focused state, many clients find it easier to settle the body, soften waves of overwhelm, and hold memories of the person or relationship with more peace. It does not rush or erase grief, and results vary from person to person.
Can hypnotherapy help me get over a breakup or an ex?
Hypnotherapy for a breakup, or hypnosis for heartbreak, focuses on calming the nervous system, loosening the pull of replaying the past, and rebuilding your sense of self-worth. Many clients use it to stop checking on an ex, sleep better and feel more like themselves again.
Is hypnotherapy helpful during a divorce or separation?
Yes, as a complement to legal, financial and counseling support. Sessions can help you stay steadier through decisions, co-parenting conversations and the emotional ups and downs of rebuilding your life.
Which hypnotherapist will I work with?
You can work with Shannon Rollins-Rodriguez or Jennifer Adams. Shannon specializes in relationship issues, heartbreak, dating, loss and major life transitions. Your free consultation is a good time to talk about which fit feels right.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you are carrying. Some clients notice a shift within a few sessions, while others prefer support over a longer period of change. We will talk through a plan with you after your first session.
Will hypnosis make me forget the person I lost?
No. Hypnotherapy does not erase memories or love. The aim is to ease the pain and overwhelm so you can remember with more peace and less distress.
Is grief hypnotherapy a replacement for counseling?
No. It complements care from licensed mental health providers and grief counselors. If grief feels unmanageable, or you have thoughts of harming yourself, please contact a licensed provider, or call or text 988.
Can I do grief hypnotherapy online?
Yes. Online sessions run over a secure video call and follow the same structure as in-person sessions. Many clients prefer grieving in the comfort of their own space.
How much does a session cost in Orlando?
A first session is $300 for two full hours, and follow-up sessions are priced by length. We accept major credit cards, FSA and HSA cards, PayPal and Afterpay. See full details on our pricing page, or ask about a session plan during your free 15-minute consultation.
